Preface About this <strong>Guide</strong><br />

Objectives<br />

This guide describes <strong>the</strong> protocols and features supported by <strong>the</strong> <strong>Force10</strong> Operating System (<strong>FTOS</strong>) and<br />

provides configuration instructions and examples <strong>for</strong> implementing <strong>the</strong>m. It is a combined resource <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

E-<strong>Series</strong>, C-<strong>Series</strong>, and S-<strong>Series</strong>.<br />

Note: Due to a difference in hardware architecture and <strong>the</strong> rapid development of C-<strong>Series</strong> and S-<strong>Series</strong>,<br />

features may occasionally differ between <strong>the</strong> three plat<strong>for</strong>ms. These differences are identified by <strong>the</strong><br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation symbol on page 36.<br />

Though this guide contains in<strong>for</strong>mation on protocols, it is not intended to be a complete reference. This<br />

guide is a reference <strong>for</strong> configuring protocols on <strong>Force10</strong> systems. For complete in<strong>for</strong>mation on protocols,<br />

refer to o<strong>the</strong>r documentation including IETF Requests <strong>for</strong> Comment (RFCs). The instructions in this guide<br />

cite relevant RFCs, and Appendix A contains a complete list of <strong>the</strong> supported RFCs and Management<br />

In<strong>for</strong>mation Base files (MIBs).<br />

Audience<br />

This document is intended <strong>for</strong> system administrators who are responsible <strong>for</strong> configuring and maintaining<br />

networks and assumes you are knowledgeable in Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking technologies.<br />

This document uses <strong>the</strong> following conventions to describe command syntax:<br />

Convention Description<br />

keyword Keywords are in bold and should be entered in <strong>the</strong> CLI as listed.<br />

parameter Parameters are in italics and require a number or word to be entered in <strong>the</strong> CLI.<br />

{X} Keywords and parameters within braces must be entered in <strong>the</strong> CLI.<br />

[X] Keywords and parameters within brackets are optional.<br />

x | y Keywords and parameters separated by bar require you to choose one.<br />
