High Availabilty on C-<strong>Series</strong><br />

C-series line cards and RPMs can be hot-swapped, which means that a line card or RPM can be added,<br />

replaced, or removed without interrupting <strong>the</strong> system. On <strong>the</strong> C-<strong>Series</strong> <strong>the</strong> RPM also contains <strong>the</strong> switch<br />

fabric.<br />

Inserting a Line Card into an Operational System<br />

When you insert a line card into an operational system, <strong>the</strong> software detects <strong>the</strong> line card type and writes<br />

<strong>the</strong> line card in<strong>for</strong>mation into <strong>the</strong> running-configuration. This in<strong>for</strong>mation is retained even after <strong>the</strong> line<br />

card is removed from <strong>the</strong> system.<br />
