System Log Management<br />

Use <strong>the</strong> logging commands to track changes in <strong>the</strong> system. With <strong>FTOS</strong>, you can configure, save, and view<br />

system messages and error messages.<br />

All error messages, except those beginning with %BOOTUP, are stored in <strong>the</strong> logging buffer. Below is an<br />

example of a message not stored in <strong>the</strong> logging buffer:<br />

By default, logging is enabled to <strong>the</strong> internal buffer, console and terminal lines, and any configured Syslog<br />

servers.<br />

The following list includes <strong>the</strong> configuration tasks <strong>for</strong> system log management:<br />

• enable logging on page 66 (default behavior)<br />

• specify logging to a Syslog server on page 67 (optional)<br />

• change logging settings on page 67 (optional)<br />

• configure a Syslog server on page 68 (optional)<br />

• <strong>FTOS</strong> support <strong>for</strong> software errors—core dumps on page 69<br />

• configure a UNIX logging facility level on page 71 (optional)<br />

• synchronize log messages on page 72 (optional)<br />

• enable timestamp on Syslog messages on page 72 (optional)<br />
