When PVST+ is enabled, <strong>the</strong> <strong>Force10</strong> device runs an STP instance <strong>for</strong> each VLAN it supports.<br />

Configuring bridge priority<br />

In STP, <strong>the</strong> algorithm determines <strong>the</strong> root bridge, but you can assign one bridge a lower priority to increase<br />

<strong>the</strong> likelihood that it will be selected as <strong>the</strong> STP root bridge. During <strong>the</strong> STP initialization process, <strong>the</strong><br />

bridge with <strong>the</strong> lowest number identifier is elected to be <strong>the</strong> root; however, you can influence <strong>the</strong> root<br />

selection by designating a bridge as a primary or backup root.<br />

To change <strong>the</strong> bridge priority, use <strong>the</strong> following command in <strong>the</strong> PVST+ CONFIGURATION mode:<br />

To configure bridge priority, use <strong>the</strong> command as shown in <strong>the</strong> example below:<br />

<strong>Force10</strong>(conf-pvst)# vlan 1 bridge-priority 4096<br />

Enable PVST+. Once PVST+ is enabled, <strong>the</strong><br />

device runs an STP instance <strong>for</strong> each VLAN it<br />

supports.<br />

Enter <strong>the</strong> keyword bridge-priority followed by<br />

<strong>the</strong> bridge priority value in increments of 4096.<br />

Range: 0 to 61440<br />

Default: 32768<br />
