configure a UNIX logging facility level<br />

You can save system log messages with a UNIX system logging facility.<br />

To configure a UNIX logging facility level, use <strong>the</strong> following command in <strong>the</strong> CONFIGURATION mode:<br />

Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose<br />

logging facility [facility-type] CONFIGURATION Specify one of <strong>the</strong> following parameters.<br />

• auth (<strong>for</strong> authorization messages)<br />

• cron (<strong>for</strong> system scheduler messages)<br />

• daemon (<strong>for</strong> system daemons)<br />

• kern (<strong>for</strong> kernel messages)<br />

• local0 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local1 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local2 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local3 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local4 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local5 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local6 (<strong>for</strong> local use)<br />

• local7 (<strong>for</strong> local use). This is <strong>the</strong> default.<br />

• lpr (<strong>for</strong> line printer system messages)<br />

• mail (<strong>for</strong> mail system messages)<br />

• news (<strong>for</strong> USENET news messages)<br />

• sys9 (system use)<br />

• sys10 (system use)<br />

• sys11 (system use)<br />

• sys12 (system use)<br />

• sys13 (system use)<br />

• sys14 (system use)<br />

• syslog (<strong>for</strong> Syslog messages)<br />

• user (<strong>for</strong> user programs)<br />

• uucp (UNIX to UNIX copy protocol)<br />

The default is local7.<br />

To view nondefault settings, use <strong>the</strong> show running-config logging command (Figure 27) in <strong>the</strong> EXEC<br />

mode.<br />
