Chapter 34 <strong>Force10</strong> Service Agent<br />

<strong>Force10</strong> Service Agent is supported only on plat<strong>for</strong>ms: c e<br />

The <strong>Force10</strong> Service Agent (FTSA), commonly called a call-home service, resides on <strong>the</strong> switch (installed<br />

as part of <strong>FTOS</strong> on C-<strong>Series</strong> and E-<strong>Series</strong>) and collects in<strong>for</strong>mation from <strong>the</strong> chassis, constructs<br />

system-monitoring email messages, and sends <strong>the</strong> messages to <strong>Force10</strong> Support (Technical Assistance<br />

Center — TAC) and/or o<strong>the</strong>r designated recipients.<br />

Starting with <strong>FTOS</strong> 7.7.1.0, FTSA can collect system status details in event-driven messages, in addition to<br />

periodic messages containing hardware and software inventory in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

Configuring FTSA<br />

FTSA requires minimal configuration to get it running at a basic level. After starting FTSA, you must<br />

designate an SMTP server that receives and <strong>for</strong>wards <strong>the</strong> email messages from <strong>the</strong> switch, and you must<br />

designate an Administrator email address. All o<strong>the</strong>r FTSA configuration tasks are optional, but you would<br />

typically want to per<strong>for</strong>m <strong>the</strong>m so that <strong>the</strong> full FTSA messaging functionality is enabled.<br />
