Configuring a Host Name<br />

The host name appears in <strong>the</strong> prompt. The default host name is <strong>for</strong>ce10.<br />

• Host names must start with a letter and end with a letter or digit.<br />

• Characters within <strong>the</strong> string can be letters, digits, and hyphens.<br />

To configure a host name:<br />

Accessing <strong>the</strong> System Remotely<br />

You can configure <strong>the</strong> system so that you may access it remotely via Telnet. The method <strong>for</strong> configuring<br />

<strong>the</strong> C-<strong>Series</strong> and E-<strong>Series</strong> <strong>for</strong> Telnet access is different from S-<strong>Series</strong>. The C-<strong>Series</strong> and E-<strong>Series</strong> have a<br />

dedicated managment port and a management routing table that is separate from <strong>the</strong> IP routing table. The<br />

S-<strong>Series</strong> does not have a dedicated managment port, but ra<strong>the</strong>r can be managed from any port, and it does<br />

not have a separate managment routing table.<br />

Accessing <strong>the</strong> C-<strong>Series</strong> and E-<strong>Series</strong> Remotely<br />

Configuring <strong>the</strong> system <strong>for</strong> Telnet is a three-step process:<br />

1. Configure an IP address <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> management port. See page 51.<br />

2. Configure a managment route with a default gateway. See page 52.<br />

3. Configure a username and password. See page 52.<br />

Configuring <strong>the</strong> Management Port IP Address<br />

You must assign IP addresses to <strong>the</strong> management ports in order to access <strong>the</strong> system remotely.<br />
