As a security feature, <strong>FTOS</strong> returns to <strong>the</strong> EXEC mode after a period of inactivity on <strong>the</strong> terminal lines.<br />

You can change <strong>the</strong> amount of time be<strong>for</strong>e <strong>FTOS</strong> times out.<br />

To change <strong>the</strong> time interval, use <strong>the</strong> following command in <strong>the</strong> LINE mode:<br />

Command Syntax Command Mode Purpose<br />

exec-timeout minutes [seconds] LINE Set <strong>the</strong> number of minutes and seconds.<br />

minutes range: 0 to 35791. Default 10<br />

minutes <strong>for</strong> console line and 30 minutes <strong>for</strong><br />

virtual terminal lines.<br />

seconds range: 0 to 2147483. Default is 0.<br />

To view <strong>the</strong> configuration, use <strong>the</strong> show config command in <strong>the</strong> LINE mode. To return to <strong>the</strong> default<br />

values, enter no exec-timeout.<br />

telnet to ano<strong>the</strong>r network device<br />

To telnet to a peer RPM, use <strong>the</strong> following command in EXEC or EXEC privilege mode:<br />

To telnet to a network device with an IPv4 address, use <strong>the</strong> following command in EXEC or EXEC<br />

privilege mode:<br />

Open a Telnet connection to <strong>the</strong> peer RPM.<br />

To telnet to a network device with an IPv6 address, use <strong>the</strong> following command in EXEC or EXEC<br />

Open a Telnet connection to a device with an IPv4<br />

address, where <strong>the</strong> address is in dotted decimal<br />

<strong>for</strong>mat (A.B.C.D.<br />

Open a Telnet connection to a device with an IPv6<br />

address.<br />

Enter <strong>the</strong> address in <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>mat:<br />

0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000.<br />

Elision of zeros is supported.<br />
