OSPF must be configured GLOBALLY on <strong>the</strong> system in CONFIGURATION mode.<br />

OSPF features and functions are assigned to each router using <strong>the</strong> CONFIG-INTERFACE commands <strong>for</strong><br />

each interface..<br />

Note: Only 1 OSPF process per system is supported.<br />

Note: By default, OSPF is disabled<br />

<strong>Configuration</strong> Task List <strong>for</strong> OSPF<br />

1. Configure a physical interface. Assign an IP address, physical or loopback, to <strong>the</strong> interface to enable<br />

Layer 3 routing.<br />

2. Enable OSPF globally. assign network area and neighbors.<br />

3. Add interfaces or configure o<strong>the</strong>r attributes.<br />

The following configuration steps include two mandatory steps and several optional ones:<br />

• Enable OSPF (mandatory)<br />

• Assign OSPF area (mandatory)<br />

• Configure stub areas<br />

• Enable passive interfaces<br />

• Enable OSPF au<strong>the</strong>ntication<br />

• Enable graceful restart<br />

• Configure virtual linksfilter routes on page 388 (optional)<br />

• Redistribute routes<br />

• Troubleshooting OSPF<br />

Enable OSPF<br />

Assign an IP address to an interface (physical or Loopback) to enable Layer 3 routing. By default OSPF,<br />

like all routing protocols, are disabled.<br />

You must configure at least one interface <strong>for</strong> Layer 3 be<strong>for</strong>e enabling OSPF globally.<br />
