GRUNDLOS
Daniel Burkhardt
PAN
Johann Lurf
Kameramann, Cutter, Flash-Programmierer. Produktion
und Entwicklung einiger Kurzfilme, Performances
und Video-Installationen.
The video ›grundlos‹ (meaning both: bottomless and groundless)
combines three different perspectives in one image. A gaze on an
urban ground structure. The thin cracks between the slabs form a
pattern which lies like grid on the ground. The grid trembles continuously.
A couple is walking on the trembling ground, apparently
untouched.
The material was shot with three separated cameras which had
been assembled on a pole. The material is cutted frame by frame so
that one picture emerges out of three different ones. Due to perspective
distortions unexpected forms are arising out of the rightangled
ground structure. The space vanishes in spiral movements.
Daniel Burkhardt, *1977, studied philosophy and German
language in Berlin, and audiovisual media at the Academy of
Media Arts in Cologne. He works as a director, camera operator,
cutter, Flash programmer. Production and development of several
short films, visual performances and video installations.
Das Panorama einer dreigeteilten Welt. Der Kameraschwenk
um 360 Grad beginnt auf einem Kinderspielplatz,
führt vorbei an einer alltäglichen städtischen Szenerie
- Fußgänger, Autos, Geschäfte - um am Ende wieder
an seinen Ausgangspunkt zurückzukehren. Das Bildfeld
ist in drei einzelne Kader unterteilt, die mit geringer
Zeitverzögerung von rechts nach links aufeinander folgen.
(...) Durch diese kleine Verstörung und Verzögerung
in der Wahrnehmung erreicht Johann Lurfs verblüffend
einfach konzipierter (ein Motor auf dem Kamerastativ
reguliert die Geschwindigkeit des Schwenks) und dennoch
reflexiv verspielter Film eine ungeahnte Wirkung.
A panorama of a world divided into three. The camera's 360°
pan begins at a playground and passes by everyday scenes of
urban life pedestrians, cars, shops before returning to its starting
point. The field of view is divided into three separate pictures
showing the same scene with a slight delay from right to left. (...)
As a result of this slight distortion and delay in perception,
Johann Lurf's film, with deceptively simple conception (a motor on
the camera's tripod controls the speed of the pan) and at the same
time reflexively playful, has an unexpected effect. (Michael Pekler,
