Marketing, New Age Meditationsübungen, Numerologie und der Planung von Städten und Themenparks
an. Der Film bemüht solche Diskurse zum Interaktivieren, um strukturelle Spuren der Affinität aufzudecken;
am Auffälligsten sind hier die sich wiederholenden Systeme, die versuchen, mit einem latenten Trauma
zurecht zu kommen - einer Angst, von der Gegenwart abgekoppelt zu werden und dem Verlangen, durch Verbrauchszyklen
an der Oberfläche zu bleiben. Zwangsneurosen werden ein festes System, indem sie nicht als eine innere psychologische
Struktur aufgestellt werden, sondern als eine breite soziale Bedingung, die festlegt, wie wir mit Zeit
umgehen.
Nico Herbst: New Yorker Künstler, der mit Film/Video, Installationen und Performances arbeitet. Er trat drei
Jahre lang im experimentellen Theater mit dem Thunder Bay Ensemble auf, mit dem er u. a. in La Mama E.T.C.
(NYC) und dem Festival di Pantelleria, Italien auftrat. Zur Zeit arbeitet er an Installationen für die GalleryTK, Northampton,
MA und Time and Space Limited, Hudson, NY. Seine Arbeiten wurden ausgezeichnet und gezeigt u. a. auf
folgenden Festivals: New York Exposition of Short Film and Video, Kinofilm, Manchester, UK und Northampton Independent
Film Festival, USA.
›Instructions for Performing through Duration and Texture‹ borrows from formal languages such as serialism, psycho-pharmaceutical
marketing, new age meditation techniques, numerology, and the design of city and theme parks. The film induces such discourses to interact
so as to reveal structural traces bearing affinities; most notably, systems of repetition that attempt to cope with a latent trauma - a
fear of falling from the present and a desire to stay afloat through cycles of consumption. Obsessive-compulsive disorder becomes a constitutive
system in that it is positioned not as an interior psychological structure, but as a broader social condition that structures how
we deal with time.
Nico Herbst is a New York City-based artist who works in film/video, installation, and performance. He performed for three years
with experimental theater Thunder Bay Ensemble, including performances at La Mama E.T.C. (NYC,) and Festival di Pantelleria, Italy. He
is currently producing installations for GalleryTK, Northampton, MA, and Time and Space Limited, Hudson, NY. His work has been
awarded, screened, or installed at festivals such as New York Exposition of Short Film and Video, Kinofilm, Manchester, UK, and
Northampton Independent Film Festival, USA.
