›Afraid So‹ beschäftigt sich mit Furcht und Angst. Er basiert auf einem Gedicht, in dem jede Zeile eine Frage bildet,<br />
die die Antwort ›Afraid so‹ (Ich fürchte es) impliziert. Drohendes Verhängnis durchzieht den Film.<br />
ICH FÜRCHTE ES. Fängt es an zu regnen? Ist der Scheck geplatzt? Haben wir keinen Kaffee mehr? Tut das weh?<br />
Verlierst du vielleicht deine Arbeit? Ist das Glas zerbrochen? Wurde das Gepäck fehlgeleitet? Wird das mir angekreidet?<br />
Ist viel Geld abhanden gekommen? Wurde jemand verletzt? Herrscht dichter Verkehr? Muss ich mich ausziehen?<br />
Hinterlässt es eine Narbe? Muss ich gehen? Kommt das in die Akten? Ist meine Zeit schon abgelaufen? Sehen wir die<br />
zweite Besetzung? Schadet das meinem Augenlicht? Sind alle Bücher verbrannt? Rauchst du noch? Ist der Knochen<br />
gebrochen? Muss ich ihn ins Bett bringen? Hat das Auto Totalschaden? Bin ich für diese Gebühren verantwortlich?<br />
Ist das ansteckend? Müssen wir lange warten? Ist die Startbahn vereist? War die Pistole geladen? Hat das Nebenwirkungen?<br />
Weißt du, wer dich betrogen hat? Ist die Wunde infiziert? Haben wir uns verirrt? Wird es noch schlimmer?<br />
Jay Rosenblatt macht seit über zwanzig Jahren Filme. Er erhielt ein Guggenheim und ein Rockefeller Stipendium.<br />
Seine Filme erzielten zahlreiche Auszeichnungen und wurden weltweit gezeigt. Eine Auswahl seiner Filme hatte<br />
eine einwöchige Kino-Laufzeit im New Yorker Film Forum und landesweit. Artikel über seine Arbeit sind in der New<br />
York Times, LA Times, Sight & Sound, Filmmaker und The Independent erschienen.<br />
›Afraid So‹ is about fear and anxiety. It is based on a poem where each line forms a question with the implied response being ›Afraid<br />
so.‹ Impending doom permeates the film.<br />
AFRAID SO. Is it starting to rain? Did the check bounce? Are we out of coffee? Is this going to hurt? Could you lose your job? Did the<br />
glass break? Was the baggage misrouted? Will this go on my record? Are you missing much money? Was anyone injured? Is the traffic<br />
heavy? Do I have to remove my clothes? Will it leave a scar? Must you go? Will this be in the papers? Is my time up already? Are we seeing<br />
the understudy? Will it affect my eyesight? Did all the books burn? Are you still smoking? Is the bone broken? Will I have to put him<br />
to sleep? Was the car totaled? Am I responsible for these charges? Are you contagious? Will we have to wait long? Is the runway icy?<br />
Was the gun loaded? Could this cause side effects? Do you know who betrayed you? Is the wound infected? Are we lost? Will it get any<br />
worse?<br />
Jay Rosenblatt has been making films for over 20 years. He is a recipient of a Guggenheim and a Rockefeller Fellowship. His films<br />
have won numerous awards and have screened throughout the world. A selection of his films had a one-week theatrical run at New<br />
York's Film Forum and throughout the country. Articles about his work have appeared in The New York Times, LA Times, Sight & Sound,<br />
Filmmaker and The Independent.<br />
