VIER KÄFIGE
Simone Häckel
Elmar Vestner zerlegt in dieser
Arbeit sein Porträt in Einzelsegmente.
Die Fragmentierung wird zum
Ausgangspunkt einer Selbstbefragung,
die die Problematik der Identität
reflektiert. Das Ich wird in seiner
Fragmentierung als imaginäres
Kraftfeld mit offenen Grenzen inszeniert.
Die Fragmentierung der Bilder
verweist auf einen Verlust von Ganzheit
und Kohärenz. Die Welt ist nur
noch ausschnitthaft zu haben, in
fragmentarischen Schnipseln, die
wie beim Blick durch ein Kaleidoskop
immer neue Relationen und
Verbindungen eingehen.
In this work, Elmar Vestner cuts up his
portrait into individual segments. The
fragmentation becomes the starting point
of a self-examination that reflects the
problem of identity. The self is staged in its
fragmentation as an imaginary force field
with open borders. The fragmentation of
the images refers to the loss of entirety and
coherence. The world is now only available
in parts, in fragmentary snippets that,
similar to looking into a kaleidoscope,
always provide new relations and connections.
In 84 Blöcken reihen sich Hochhäuser
und typische Berliner Plattenbauten
zu einem Defilée beweglicher
Objekte. Die von Virilio
beschworene Dynamisierung des
Raumes wird konterkariert durch
eine Rhythmisierung des Bildraums.
In 84 Blöcken multi-storey buildings
and typical Berlin prefabricated houses follow
after one another to make a defile of
mobile objects. The speeding up of space
conjured up by Virilio is counteracted by
putting the visual space to rhythm.
In den ›Vier Käfigen‹ laufen
Raubtiere auf und ab. Isoliert als
Objekt der Beobachtung befinden sie
sich in einer künstlich konstruierten
Szenerie. Ebenso wie diese
Räume funktionslos erscheinen, so
wirken auch die Tiere: denaturiert,
entfremdet. Aus ihrem natürlichen
Lebensraum verdrängt und ihrer
ursprünglichen Funktion beraubt,
sind sie nur noch exotische Schaustücke
in karger Kulisse und gleichen
so dem Angebot der urbanen
Einkaufswelten in unmittelbarer
Umgebung der Medienfassade, der
Berliner Friedrichstraße.
In the ›Four Cages‹ (Vier Käfigen) beasts
of prey run up and down. Isolated as an
object of observance, they are found in an
artificially constructed setting. The animals
appear to be just as functionless as
these spaces: de-natured and alienated.
Driven out of their natural habitat and
robbed of their original function, they are
now only exotic exhibits with a bare backdrop,
and thus resemble the offer of urban
shopping worlds in the immediate surroundings
of the media façade, Berlin's
Friedrichstraße.
