›The Staring Girl‹ verfolgt die Reise eines jungen Mädchens und ihre Suche nach authentischem
Ausdruck. Durch die Erforschung der komplexen Geisteswelt eines jungen Mädchens nehmen
wir die widerstreitenden Gefühle wahr, die auf der einen Seite durch das Bedürfnis, sich
selber treu zu sein, und auf der anderen Seite, den Erwartungen der anderen gerecht zu werden,
hervorgerufen werden.
Sarah Lewis, geboren in Melbourne, Australien. Sie fing an im Bereich Film als Forschende
an der Londoner Produktionsfirma Tony Kaye Films zu arbeiten. Während dieser Zeit produzierte
sie ihren ersten Dokumentarfilm Crowded House. Während sie in Europa lebte und am Künstlerhaus
Bethanien in Berlin studierte, schrieb und führte Sarah Regie beim Kurzfilm Blinds
Man's Bluff. Sie nahm sich auch die Zeit um bei dem polnischen Filmemacher Wojciech Marczewski
am FOCAL in Zürich zu studieren. Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Australien schrieb, führte
Regie und schnitt Sarah einen 10-minutigen Fiction-Film; The Staring Girl (aufgeführt beim
EMAF). Sie lebt heute wieder in Melbourne und beendet gerade einen Dokumentarfilm in Spielfilmlänge,
The Cuts Film; er spielt in einem Friseursalon in London. Dieser Film überspannt
mehr als zehn Jahre Arbeit.
›The Staring Girl‹ follows the journey of a young girl and her quest for authentic expression. Exploring the
complex world of a young girl's mind. We become aware of the conflicting feelings that result from a need to be
true to herself in the midst of others' expectations of her.
Sarah Lewis, born in Melbourne, Australia, began working in film as a researcher at the London-based
production company Tony Kaye Films. During this time she produced/directed her first documentary Crowded
House. While living in Europe and studying at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Sarah wrote and directed a
short film Blinds Man's Bluff. She also took time out to study film-making with the Polish film-maker Wojciech
Marczewski at FOCAL in Zurich. After returning to Australia, Sarah wrote, directed and edited a 10-minute fiction
film; The Staring Girl (showing at EMAF). She is now living back in Melbourne and is in the process of finishing
a feature length documentary, The Cuts Film; based in a barber shop in London, the making of this film has
spanned over 10 years.
