In einander gegenüber aufgestellten Monitoren sind Gesichter zweier identischer Personen zu sehen. Im Wechsel
spuckt mal der eine und kurz darauf der andere jeweils ins Gesicht des Gegenübers. Jemanden zu bespucken ist eine
Geste der Degradierung, die aus Wut oder Verachtung entsteht. Sich selbst zu bespucken, erscheint somit als Form
der Selbstverachtung, die als psychologisches Phänomen üblicherweise unsichtbar bleibt. Auch die Aufspaltung des
Selbst wirkt in diesem Zusammenhang wie eine schizophrene Haltung und Handlung. Man bedient sich der Spucke,
um einer Handlung mehr Kraft zu verleihen, sich zu schützen, um sein Interesse an einem Gegenstand zu bekunden,
um einen Vertrag zu ›unterzeichnen‹, um Leben zu schenken. In Westafrika spuckt der Großvater seinem Enkel
wenige Tage nach der Geburt in den Mund. Bei diesem Ritual handelt es sich um den Glauben der Verbindung zwischen
Seele und Speichel. ›Insgesamt ist die Spucke - vom Fluch bis zur Wohltat, von der Beleidigung bis zum Wunder
- genau wie die Seele: Balsam oder Schmutz‹ (Zitat: Marcel Griaule).

The faces of two identical people can be seen in monitors facing each other. Alternately, one of them spits into the other's face, followed
shortly by the other spitting into his counterpart's face. Spitting on someone is a gesture of degradation arising from anger or contempt.
Spitting at oneself appears to be a kind of self-contempt, which usually remains invisible as a psychological phenomenon. Splitting
the self in this context also seems to be a schizophrenic manner and act. Spit is used to give more emphasis to an act, to protect oneself,
to announce one's interest in an object, to ›sign‹ a contract and to spare somebody's life. In West Africa the grandfather of a new-born
child will spit into the baby's mouth a few days after it has been born. The ritual embodies their belief in the connection between the soul
and spit. ›All in all, spit - ranging from a curse to a charitable act, from an insult to a wonder - is exactly like the soul: balsam or dirt‹
