Ein mit Video und Super 8 gedrehtes Tagebuch, gefilmt zwischen und in
den Stationen der ›Aufenthaltsgebiete‹, die Katharina die Große bezeichnete,
damit Juden in diese Gebiete übersiedeln konnten, um am westlichen Rand
des Reiches zu leben. ›Vilnius-Odessa‹ ist der erste Teil dieser Reise, die später
einmal irgendwo im Westen enden soll. Dieser Teil ist eine Hommage an
meine sogenannten spirituellen Väter, Maler und Filmemacher: Chagall, Vertov,
Eisenstein…
Das Ganze ist eine Art Eisenbahnreise, ein Kommen und Gehen zwischen
der Welt der Vergangenheit, der Erinnerung und der Gegenwart, welches
auch durch den Wechsel des stummen Super 8 Films zum Video unterstrichen
wird.

A journal filmed in video and in super 8, shot between and in the stations of the ›Residence
Zone‹, traced by Catherine la Grande in 1791 so that the jews can go and live at the
west of the Empire. ›Vilnius-Odessa‹ is the first part of this trip which should end later
somewhere in the West. In this part, I was about going to greet those I call my spiritual
fathers, painters and film-makers: Chagall, Vertov, Eisenstein…
It results in a kind of rail wandering, a coming and going between the world of the
past and the reminiscences and the one of the present, which is already interpreted with
the passage from the silent super 8 to the video.
