›Whispering Pines #5‹ ist eine Fortsetzung der Videoserie von Shana Moulton, die von den
banalen und fantastischen Aktivitäten ihrer Protagonistin Cynthia erzählen. Während die kalte
und deprimierte Cynthia in ihren Selbsthilfebüchern und beruhigendem Krimskrams Trost
sucht, wird sie zu einem elektrischen Tempel gebracht, der aus den Mustern ihrer Heizdecke auftaucht.
Im Tempel hat sie eine läuternde Erfahrung mit einer Orgelpfeife und sie entdeckt die
spirituellen Ausmaße häuslichen Stroms.
Shana Moulton hat den Charakter Cynthia geschaffen, die Kleider mit eingearbeiteten medizinischen
Gräten trägt und die sich mit inspirierendem New-Age Krimskrams umgibt. In einer
Abfolge von Video-Episoden, Performances und Installationen zeigt Shana die Suche Cynthias
nach Sinn, Erfüllung und Erlösung durch ihre banalen häuslichen Dekorationen. Durch die
Erschaffung ihrer eigenen Wirklichkeit versucht Cynthia, die durch Moulton gespielt wird, ihr
Leben zu meistern. Shana Moulton ist gebürtige Kalifornierin. Zur Zeit ist sie bei De Ateliers in
Amsterdam Artist-in-residence. Ihre Videos wurden in ganz Nordamerika und Europa gezeigt.
›Whispering Pines #5‹ continues Shana Moulton's ongoing video series that focuses on the mundane and fantastical
activities of a woman named Cynthia. While searching for comfort in her self-help books and soothing
knick-knacks, the cold and depressed Cynthia is transported to an electric temple that springs from the pattern in
her electric blanket. In the temple she has a cathartic experience with a pipe organ and discovers the spiritual
dimensions of household electricity.
Shana Moulton has created a character named Cynthia who wears clothing embedded with medical
devices and surrounds herself with inspirational new age knickknacks. In a series of episodic videos, performances,
and installations, Shana shows Cynthia's search for purpose, fulfillment and salvation through her banal
home decorations. Played by Moulton herself, Cynthia struggles to cope with life by creating her own reality out
of the mundane. Shana Moulton, a native of California, is currently an artist-in-residence at De Ateliers in Amsterdam.
Her videos have been screened across North America and Europe.
