AUSSTELLUNG // EXHIBITION
The two-channel video installation shows public places in four growing metropolises of the world: Shanghai, Mexico City, New York
and Berlin. 360° shots of various panoramas were made in each city. These views of street stands, streams of pedestrians, buildings and
traffic intersections represent spheres that lie between public and private spaces.
Two cities are placed opposite each other. Each view of the city is connected with one of the other four, leading to six comparisons. The
building fragments, street views and moving objects that represent the cultural identity of each place are cut out of their surroundings
and placed into another urban landscape, on the principle of ›copy and paste‹, similar to the process of Asian ›jigsaw puzzles‹. The created
film sequences are projected onto a rotating screen from two sides from a video arm that rotates at the same speed as the shooting camera.
The observer also has to go with the rotating screen to follow one side of the projection.
The urban landscapes overlap each other. Urban scenes from the memory and popular local identity are stored over this, appearing
here as stereotypical constructions of architecture and urban space. (Mona Schieren)
›The rotating screen could be compared with a three-dimensional scanning device. This work is a continuation of a series of installation
and video projects in which idiosyncratic elements of particular urban environments are visually interwoven and juxtaposed with
one another.‹ (Caspar Stracke)
