Das Video wurde im Herbst 2001 an der transmongolischen
Eisenbahnstrecke und in deren Umgebung zwischen
Brüssel und Shanghai gedreht. Zwischen wertvollen
Begegnungen und unsicheren Zuständen wechselnd
endet der Film schließlich in den Arbeitervierteln im
Herzen von Beijing, die dem von den Behörden
gewünschten neuen Beijing weichen sollen, um den Rahmen
für die Olympischen Spiele 2008 zu bieten.
›Den Weg seines Untergangs als Dekonstruktion zeichnen.
Horizontaler Prozess einer Identitätssuche. Unmöglicher
Untergang. Ich weiß, wohin ich gehe. Ich weiß,
woher ich komme. Man muss nur den Schienen folgen.
Ich bin in Bewegung. Konfrontation mit sich selbst im
Jetzt. Im Vorbeigehen. Ich bin immer dabei wegzugehen.‹

Vincent Pinckaers, *1975, Diplom an der Hochschule
Insas in Brüssel, Regisseur und Kameramann.
The work was filmed on the trans-Mongolian railway line and
its surroundings between Brussels and Shanghai in autumn 2001.
Alternating between precious meetings and fragile states, the film
finally concludes in the workers' quarters in the heart of the city
of Beijing, which have to make way for the new Beijing, as desired
by the authorities, which is to provide space for the 2008 Olympic
Games.
›Tracing the path of his downfall as deconstruction. Horizontal
process of a search of identity. Impossible downfall. I know where
I am going. I know where I come from. You simply need to follow
the rails. I am in motion. Confrontation with the self in the present.

Erinnerung an einen Moment: ein Blick, ein bestimmter
Geruch, ein Geräusch, ein Lied. Die Seele einer Stadt,
die Schönheit des Alltäglichen offenbart sich niemals
einem Besucher, sie ist nur den Menschen bekannt die
in ihr aufwachsen. Spontane, skizzenhafte Bilder, eine
Widerspiegelung der menschlichen Wahrnehmung; verbunden
mit atmosphärischen Sounds entsteht eine assoziative
Reise durch Peking - die Hauptstadt Chinas, Heimat
für 15 Millionen Menschen. Wer sie sind und was
ihre Stadt für sie speziell und einzigartig macht wird
zur filmischen Collage einer reflektierten Realität.
Angelika von Chamier, *1975 in Berlin, arbeitete
nach Abschluss ihrer Ausbildung zur Toningenieurin im
Jahr 2000 für das Fernsehen. Seit 2002 studiert sie Filmschnitt
an der Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen ›Konrad
Wolf‹ in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Sie hat bisher bei verschiedenen
Filmen als Cutterin gearbeitet. ›Notes and
Sketches‹ ist ihr Regiedebut.
Spontaneous, sketchy images echo memories of single moments:
a view, a smell, a sound, a song. The soul of a city, every day life,
never reveals itself to a visitor. It is only revealed to the people
who grew up there. The camera evokes the impermanence of the
ordinary in an associative journey through Bejiing - capital of
China, home to 15 million people. Who they are and what makes
their town special and unique to them creates a rhythmic melody
of a reflected reality.
Angelika von Chamier, *1975 in Berlin, became an
audio engineer in 2000 and has been working for television since.
She is currently studying film editing at the HFF Academy of Film
and Telvision ›Konrad Wolf‹ in Potsdam-Babelsberg, begun in
2002. She has worked on several films as editor. ›Notes and
Sketches‹ is her directing debut.
