Vital Product Data (VPD) Introduction<br />

Vital Product Data (VPD) consists of data items that are pertinent to board<br />

configuration and operation. This appendix includes information on how<br />

to perform various tasks to read, modify and correct Vital Product Data, as<br />

well as general format and content information for this product. For more<br />

detailed instructions, refer to the PPCBug Firmware User’s Manual, as<br />

referenced in the Motorola <strong>Computer</strong> Group Documents section of<br />

Appendix A of this manual. Information that is contained in the VPD<br />

includes:<br />

❏ Marketing Product Number (e.g., <strong>MVME5100</strong>-013x)<br />

❏ Factory Assembly Number (e.g., 01-W3403F01)<br />

❏ Serial number of the specific <strong>MVME5100</strong><br />

❏ Processor family number (e.g., 750, 7410, etc.)<br />

❏ Hardware clock frequencies (internal, external, fixed, PCI bus)<br />

❏ Component configuration information (connectors, Ethernet<br />

addresses, FLASH bank ID, L2 cache ID)<br />

❏ Security information (VPD type, version and rev. data, 32-bit crc<br />

protection)<br />

❏ Base address information for various components<br />

❏ Direct Memory Addresses<br />

❏ Interrupt resources<br />
