They are thentreated as compounds, the second member losing its accentand the two words l^feing written in the Pada text with theAvagraha between them, as in other compounds. This classresembles other compounds in having a single accent, butdiffers from them in having not the stem but the fullyinflected form of nominal words in the first member.In the KV. the iteratives number over 140, rather morethan half of them being substantives. The sense conveyedby the repetition is frequency, or constant succession intime, or distribution in space. Examples of the variouskinds of iteratives are the following:
