Final m is liable tochange of position before all consonants (42). Final dentaln is liable to change before vowels (42, 52), palatals, dentals,the semivowel 1, and sometimes p (40).36. The dental nasal n remains unchanged before (1) thegutturals k, kh, g, gh; (2) the labials p,^ ph, b, bh, m; (3) thesoft dentals d, dh, n; generally also before t (40, 2) ; (4) thesemivowels y, r, v, and the breathing h ; (5) the cerebraland the dental sibilants s and s.a. Before s and s a transitional t may be inserted,e.g. ahan-t sahasa ;tan-t sam.<strong>II</strong>.Changes of Position.37. The only four final consonants (27) liable to change ofposition are the dental t and n, the labial m, and Visarjaniya.^The palatal and cerebral nasals, as has already been stated, do notoccur as finals.^Before p it sometimes becomes mh ; cp. 40, 5.
