<strong>of</strong> inpatients that were treated at the military<br />
hospitals due to the Repair and Maintenance<br />
P<strong>rogramme</strong> that is taking place at all three<br />
military hospitals. Outsourcing took place<br />
with regard to the patients that could not<br />
be treated at the military hospitals. All the<br />
demands were met.<br />
Outpatient consultations 440 000 305 899. There was a decrease in the<br />
number <strong>of</strong> outpatient consultations due to<br />
the Repair and Maintenance P<strong>rogramme</strong><br />
that is in progress at the military hospitals<br />
and the subsequent downscaling that had<br />
to take place in some <strong>of</strong> the departments.<br />

met, representing 91% <strong>of</strong> the planned<br />
22 000 medical confirmations. As indicated,<br />
certain aviation qualifications are only<br />
reconfirmed every three years, clarifying the<br />
9% deviations.<br />

The Military Psychological Institute is<br />
operational. The demands and requirements<br />
were not all met due to the shortage <strong>of</strong><br />
psychologists. The development <strong>of</strong> the<br />
combat-readiness instrument is still in the<br />
initial research phase. A draft product has<br />
been presented and further development is<br />
in process after inputs were obtained from<br />
SAMHS stakeholders. The initial module is<br />
being tested and further development will<br />
follow.<br />
50% achieved. There is a shortage<br />
<strong>of</strong> healthcare practitioners, especially<br />
psychologists. 90% <strong>of</strong> test and measuring<br />
instruments were found applicable to the<br />
DOD.<br />
24-hour availability Achieved. A medical <strong>of</strong>ficer was available<br />
on a 24-hour basis. Five dedicated health<br />
support actions took place to naval surface<br />
and subsurface elements.<br />

Centres<br />
Institute for Maritime Medicine (IMM) was<br />
in a position to handle diving submarine<br />
evaluations. The demands <strong>of</strong> the client have<br />
been limited because <strong>of</strong> the present staffing<br />
in the environment. The SAMS achieved<br />
the target with capacity to spare. The total<br />
demand for submarine and diving medicals<br />
was 199. All these demands for diving and<br />
submarine medicals were met.<br />
Achieved. The two Animal Health Centres<br />
in Potchefstroom provided the necessary<br />
capabilities for the SANDF and SA Police<br />
Service canine requirement. A total <strong>of</strong> 42<br />
veterinary medical supports took place to<br />
deployed SANDF forces, and 867 to SAPS<br />
forces. The number <strong>of</strong> members (dogs and<br />
members) trained in specialist courses was<br />
351.
