period 12 to 17 October 2007 and representatives from the following countries participated: South<br />

Africa, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Swaziland,<br />

Tanzania, UK, USA, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<br />

Preparations have been initiated for South Africa to host the International Chiefs <strong>of</strong> Chaplains<br />

conference during March 2009.<br />

A Chaplain Service support plan has been developed for SANDF <strong>Defence</strong> Attachés and their families.<br />

The plan will be implemented in FY 2008/09.<br />

A guidebook on Integrated Waste Management in the Military was developed and published as<br />

a joint project <strong>of</strong> the Environmental Security Working Group (ESWG), under the auspices <strong>of</strong> the<br />

South African-United States <strong>of</strong> America <strong>Defence</strong> Committee, for implementation in the DOD. The<br />

DOD furthermore participated in an international workshop in Botswana on the implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

environmental considerations in military operations following the publication <strong>of</strong> a joint guide document<br />

in this regard.<br />

The Reserves participated in international parades and tattoos, with the maintenance <strong>of</strong> high standards.<br />

Highlights include the Moscow Tattoo (Transvaal Scottish) and firing <strong>of</strong> a salute at the Tower <strong>of</strong><br />

London (Transvaal Horse Artillery).<br />
