Submitted a Cabinet Memorandum on
3 September 2007 to inform Cabinet
of the authorised number of personnel
involved, the expiry date of the
mandate and the rotation date for each
deployment of the SANDF.
Participated in the interdepartmental
meeting on the lessons learnt in the
SANDF deployment in Burundi (with
ACCORD as facilitator) and provided
all inputs pertaining to the national
approval for these deployments and
the extensions thereof. These were
included in the final report to DFA.
Compiled and submitted the Fourth
and Fifth Progress Reports on the
bilateral cooperation between South
Africa and the Democratic Republic
of the Congo, in May and July 2007
respectively.
Drafted the DOD position paper on
bilateral RSA-Swedish SSR in May
2007, and the policy paper on SSR in
June 2007.
Compiled and submitted the Sixth
Progress Report on the bilateral
cooperation between South Africa and
the Democratic Republic of the Congo
in December 2007.
Compiled and submitted the Seventh
Progress Report on the bilateral
cooperation between South Africa and
the Democratic Republic of the Congo
in March 2008.
Represented the DOD at the AU
Ministerial Committee of the Countries
of the Region on Comoros Meeting
on 19 June 2007, on 8 and 9 July and
18 September 2007 in Pretoria and
Cape Town.
Successfully represented the DOD as a
member of the technical team fielded
to the DRC to assist the Congolese
with the modalities of the SSR Master
Plan in December 2007.
Represented the DOD as part of the
technical team fielded to Burundi to
initiate the withdrawal of the SANDF
members from Burundi in compliance
with the Minister of Defence’s directive
and decision, over the period 13 to 15
February 2008.
Represented the DOD at the Fifth
Meeting of African Chiefs of Defence
Staff and Heads of Security (ACDS)
and the Second Ordinary Meeting
of Ministers of Defence and State
Security, over the period 24 to 28
March 2008.
