Section 5 DLP-5 ATLAS 550 System Manual
Perform the following steps in the order listed.
1. Connect to the ATLAS 550 using either the ADMIN, CRAFT, or ETHERNET interfaces.
If you are not already connected to the unit’s ADMIN or CRAFT interfaces (either with a
VT100 compatible terminal or with a PC running VT100 emulation software), follow the procedure in
DLP-1, Connecting a VT100 Terminal or PC to the ADMIN or CRAFT Port.
Alternatively, if the unit is part of a management cluster connected to the local network, you may use a
PC connected to the network to Telnet into the unit. Use the procedures in DLP-3, Setting IP
Parameters for the ATLAS 550, to connect to the ETHERNET interface.
2. Log in to the unit using the read-write password (see DLP-2 for details).
3. Go to the SYSTEM CONFIG menu, select the ACCESS PASSWORDS menu, and press .
4. Add a new user profile and password by select the first column (0) and pressing I (for insert).
5. Give the new user profile a name by selecting the LABEL field, pressing , and typing the
user-defined name.
6. Personalize the password for the appropriate label by selecting the PASSWORD field, pressing ,
and then typing the appropriate password.
7. Determine the password level for the corresponding label.
The ATLAS 550 contains six different password levels. The following chart gives a brief description
of each level.

8. Assign the password level to the appropriate label by selecting the ACCESS RIGHTS field and choosing
the level decided upon in step 7.
Passwords for the ATLAS 550 system are case sensitive. The default password for a new user profile is
“password.” The current password displays as a series of asterisks (********).
