<strong>Libertad</strong> <strong>para</strong> <strong>elegir</strong>:Cultura <strong>•</strong> Comunicación <strong>•</strong> Desarrollo Humano Sustentablecon una profunda carga colonialista en don<strong>de</strong> todo aquello que recuer<strong>de</strong> el pasado mesoamericano ha<strong>de</strong> ser <strong>de</strong>nostado y pon<strong>de</strong>rar en su lugar lo europeo y lo occi<strong>de</strong>ntal. Finalmente su condición <strong>de</strong> migrantesen su propio país también los vulnera en cuanto al acceso a educación, salud, trabajo, vivienda,etcétera. A<strong>de</strong>más <strong>de</strong> <strong>las</strong> condiciones <strong>de</strong> incertidumbre que tienen que sortear en cuanto a la precarieda<strong>de</strong>n los distintos ámbitos <strong>de</strong> la vida cotidiana. Pero, pese a todo, estas <strong>de</strong>cenas <strong>de</strong> miles <strong>de</strong> jóvenesindígenas encuentran formas, no sólo <strong>de</strong> sobrevivir, sino <strong>de</strong> vivir, habitar, transitar, construir, apropiarse<strong>de</strong> la ciudad, practicarla, reclamar su <strong>de</strong>recho a ella, instaurar nuevas prácticas y estéticas, hacer ciudady hacerse en la ciudad.5. Dos casos emblemáticos: La Renji y los jóvenes indígenasen la Alameda CentralSi bien existe un sinnúmero <strong>de</strong> formas <strong>de</strong> vida <strong>de</strong> jóvenes indígenas en la CM, he <strong>de</strong>cidido mostrar <strong>para</strong>el análisis a dos grupos <strong>de</strong> jóvenes, que, <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> mi punto <strong>de</strong> vista, encarnan formas aparentementeopuestas <strong>de</strong> construir lo juvenil, lo indígena y lo urbano, digo, aparentemente, porque existen algunasprácticas que más bien los acercan, sobre todo lo que concierne a lo juvenil y a la ciudad, en don<strong>de</strong> nosólo los indígenas, sino todos los jóvenes urbíco<strong>las</strong> encuentran puntos <strong>de</strong> similitud, sin per<strong>de</strong>r <strong>las</strong> especificida<strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> sus contextos particulares.5.1 Un paseo por la alamedaLa Alameda central <strong>de</strong> la CM funge como centro <strong>de</strong> atracción <strong>para</strong> un universo disímbolo <strong>de</strong> sujetos,pero, particularmente los domingos se puebla <strong>de</strong> jóvenes indígenas que acu<strong>de</strong>n a ese lugar por diferentesmotivos, si bien, el objetivo principal es divertirse y <strong>de</strong>scansar <strong>de</strong>spués <strong>de</strong> una semana <strong>de</strong> arduotrabajo, también ir a la Alameda pue<strong>de</strong> ser una promesa <strong>de</strong> encontrar novia o novio, po<strong>de</strong>r hablar conalguien que pueda conseguirles trabajo, hallar alojamiento, tener noticias <strong>de</strong> alguien <strong>de</strong>l pueblo, <strong>de</strong> lacomunidad <strong>de</strong> origen, encontrarse entre paisanos, en fin, la Alameda se convierte así en una suerte <strong>de</strong>entrecruzamiento <strong>de</strong> funciones, signos y símbolos que ayuda a construir el nosotros, el aquí, el ahora.Sin ánimo <strong>de</strong> generalizar, y <strong>de</strong> acuerdo a <strong>las</strong> encuestas y entrevistas realizadas en el lugar, grosso modo,se pue<strong>de</strong> ubicar a estos jóvenes indígenas <strong>de</strong> entre 16 y 25 años (efectivamente hay población indígena menory mayor, pero nos centraremos en este rango etáreo), provenientes mayoritariamente <strong>de</strong> etnias <strong>de</strong> los estados <strong>de</strong>Veracruz, Puebla, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Estado <strong>de</strong> México e Hidalgo. El grado <strong>de</strong> escolaridad se centra mayormenteen la primaria y la secundaria. Sus activida<strong>de</strong>s laborales más representativas son: trabajadorasdomésticas, trabajadores <strong>de</strong> la construcción, <strong>de</strong>pendientes <strong>de</strong> tiendas, comercio informal. La mayoríahan abandonado la intención <strong>de</strong> estudiar y se <strong>de</strong>dican a trabajar <strong>para</strong> sufragar sus gastos y algunos <strong>para</strong>po<strong>de</strong>r mandar dinero a sus familias en sus comunida<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong> origen. Algunos <strong>de</strong> estos jóvenes han sido122
Discriminación, jóvenes, migrantes e indígenas: libertadas coartadasnombrados por el fotógrafo Fe<strong>de</strong>rico Gama 20 como los mazahuacholoskatopunks, en don<strong>de</strong> se resaltala multiplicidad <strong>de</strong> combinaciones que estos jóvenes indígenas hacen <strong>de</strong> lo que Goffman mencionaracomo la presentación <strong>de</strong> la persona en la vida cotidiana. A<strong>de</strong>más <strong>de</strong> la construcción estética que estosjóvenes hacen <strong>de</strong> su cuerpo, también van creando pautas <strong>de</strong> consumo en cuanto a música, prendas,lugares, pelícu<strong>las</strong>, en don<strong>de</strong> se crea una suerte <strong>de</strong> hiperbolización <strong>de</strong> lo juvenil y <strong>de</strong> lo urbano, no sólohay que ser jóvenes y vivir en la ciudad, también hay que parecerlo, crearlo, recrearlo. En este sentido,la noción <strong>de</strong> lo étnico se recorre, ya no existe más en el cuerpo (al menos, esa es la apuesta), incluso hablarlengua indígena se vuelve un recurso estratégico, a veces como barrera, <strong>para</strong> que los <strong>de</strong>más no entiendan<strong>de</strong> qué se habla, en otras ocasiones como estigma y se niegan a hablar lengua indígena frente a aquellosque puedan discriminarlos, otras más como vínculo con la familia y con la comunidad <strong>de</strong> origen. La etnicida<strong>de</strong>ntonces adquiere nuevas fronteras <strong>para</strong> los sujetos, algunos ahorran dinero <strong>para</strong> ir a la fiesta <strong>de</strong>l puebloy regresar a la comunidad <strong>de</strong> origen, otros ahorran también, pero <strong>para</strong> nunca más regresar. En el caso<strong>de</strong> estos jóvenes, la etnicidad se vive más como estigma que como emblema, contrario a lo que ocurrecon los jóvenes <strong>de</strong> la Red Nacional <strong>de</strong> Jóvenes Indígenas.5.2 La Red Nacional <strong>de</strong> Jóvenes Indígenas (Renji)A raíz <strong>de</strong>l Segundo Encuentro Nacional <strong>de</strong> jóvenes indígenas 2008 “li<strong>de</strong>razgos emergentes” realizado enla Ciudad <strong>de</strong> San Luis Potosí, surge la inquietud <strong>de</strong> los jóvenes hombres y mujeres ahí presentes, en aglutinarnosen una plataforma política organizativa que diera paso al seguimiento <strong>de</strong> los proyectos que se realizanen cada región, pero principalmente mantener ese vínculo a fin <strong>de</strong> fortalecer el quehacer <strong>de</strong> nuestros pueblosy comunida<strong>de</strong>s indígenas. 21Los jóvenes que conforman la Renji son en su mayoría estudiantes, algunos cursan estudios <strong>de</strong> licenciaturay posgrado en diferentes universida<strong>de</strong>s <strong>de</strong>l país, son jóvenes con formación política, en <strong>de</strong>fensa <strong>de</strong>sus culturas, <strong>de</strong> la madre tierra, proyectos <strong>de</strong> capacitación, participación política, y que buscan sobretodo el reconocimiento <strong>de</strong> lo indígena. Des<strong>de</strong> su conformación, la Red ha tratado <strong>de</strong> fortalecer su estructura,así como la posibilidad <strong>de</strong> implementar diferentes proyectos encaminados a fortalecer a <strong>las</strong>diferentes comunida<strong>de</strong>s indígenas. La apuesta <strong>de</strong> la Red es ganar espacios <strong>de</strong> participación política realy eficaz, si bien, se trata en ocasiones <strong>de</strong> dialogar en los espacios propuestos por <strong>las</strong> instituciones yorganismos internacionales, esto no agota el campo <strong>de</strong> trabajo pensado <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> los miembros <strong>de</strong> la Red.20 El fotógrafo Fe<strong>de</strong>rico Gama, <strong>de</strong>s<strong>de</strong> hace ya varios años se ha <strong>de</strong>dicado a hacer estudios fotográficos <strong>de</strong> diferentes culturas juveniles, como loscholos en Nezahualcóyotl, a<strong>de</strong>más <strong>de</strong> haber trabajado con jóvenes indígenas en la Alameda, Tacubaya y otros puntos <strong>de</strong> reunión <strong>de</strong> estos sujetos.El trabajo <strong>de</strong> Gama se ha centrado sobretodo en la estética <strong>de</strong> estos jóvenes, por lo que al darse cuenta que mezclaban en su atuendo algunasprendas pertenecientes a diferentes culturas juveniles, <strong>de</strong>cidió nombrarlos así, en don<strong>de</strong> el acento étnico estaba puesto en lo mazahua, auncuando pertenecen a diferentes grupos étnicos. Lo cholo, lo skato y lo punk tiene que ver con enfatizar la combinación <strong>de</strong> estéticas, pero tampoco<strong>las</strong> agota, ya que estos jóvenes también pue<strong>de</strong>n utilizar playeras <strong>de</strong> grupos <strong>de</strong> heavy- metal, o prendas al estilo grupero: botas, sombreros,camisas a cuadros.
