City Clerk File No. Res. 09-723Agenda No.Approved:TITLE:10.USEP 0 9 2009c yRESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF JERSEY CITY TO O~POR.AT'" ",~t-APPLY FOR FUNS FROM THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMNT OFLAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY, DIVISION OF HIGHWAY TRAICSAFETY ON BEHAF OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO COMBATDRIVING WHLE INTOXICATEDCOUNCIL as a wholeof the following resolutionOffered and moved adoptionWHREAS, Driving while intoxicated creates many dangers to all who use the streets ofCity of Jersey City; andtheWHREAS, the New Jersey Deparment of Law and Public Safety has recognzed tls dagerand has submitted a grt application for the Jersey City Police Deparent to apply for$14,104.58 under the 2009 Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund (DDEF); andWHREAS, the Dru Driving Enforcement Fund adsters fuds to Muncipalities to combatDriving Wlle Intoxicated; andWHREAS, the City of Jersey City desires to combat D.W.I. and has established a DrivingWlle Intoxicated Program; andWHREAS, the Division of Highway Trafc Safety will award the Jersey City PoliCeDeparent a total of$14,104.58 upon completion oftls grt application; andWHREAS, the fuds will be used to provide law enforcement overtime patrols to combatDriving Whle Intoxicated; implementing both roving patrols and D.W.I. checkpints; in additionto purchasing saety equipment such as flares, cones and possibly portble breathalyzers to helpoffcers in conducting DWI Checkpints; andWHREAS, the Jersey City Police Deparent would like to apply for the $14,104.58 gratfrom the Division ofHighway Traffc Safety's 2009 Dru Driving Enforcement Fund_NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Muncipal Council ofthat:the City of Jersey City1. The City of Jersey City is authoried to submit an application to the New Jersey Law andPublic Safety for the Dru Drivig Enforcement Fund; and2.
