KENNEDYCOUNCIL AS A WHOLE, offered and moved adoption ofthe following resolution:WHEREAS, Edward M. Kennedy was born in Massachusetts to Rose Fitzgerald and JosephKennedy in 1922. The youngest son born to a storied family in American politics, Edward or"Ted" as he was affectionately known, was destined to enter public life; andWHEREAS, Ted Kennedy was thirt years old, the minimum age to become a United StatesSenator, when he was elected in 1962. Ted endured the tragedies of the assassinations of hisbrothers, John F. Kennedy, President of the United States and Robert F. Kennedy, United StatesSenator and candidate for president; andWHEREAS, Ted Kennedy suffered his own personal tragedies, surviving a plane crash in 1964which left him with permanent back and neck injuries and being found responsibledrowning death of a young woman on Marha's Vineyard in 1969; andfor theWHEREAS, Ted Kennedy overcame his problems and his political skill and guile helped himbecome one of the longest serving and most effective United States Senators in our nations'history. Able to cross par lines to broker compromises, Ted Kennedy is responsible forlandmark legislation in civil rights, education and what he personally defined as the cause ofhislife, health care for all Americans; andWHEREAS, Ted Kennedy, born to one of America's wealthest families, spoke for America'sdowntrodden. His career as a legislator eared him biparisan praise. When his death on August25, 2009 was anounced, President Barack Obama called him one of the nations greatest senatorsof all time.NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Municipal Council ofthe <strong>City</strong> of <strong>Jersey</strong><strong>City</strong> does hereby mour the death of Edward M.
