2Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-16 routerDANGERFor safety reasons, the ESD wrist strap should contain a 1 megohm series resistor.CAUTIONUse of a power screwdriver may twist the heads from the screws <strong>and</strong> is not recommended.CAUTIONIf you do not install a module in a slot, you must keep the slot blank in place. If you operate therouter with an uncovered slot, the system may overheat. Tighten the screws that secure the slotblanks so that they remain in place when removing adjacent panels or modules.Reset fan speed to autoFor <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e 16-slot routers, if you insert a module into a slot where the fan speed for aprevious module was manually configured, you will need to change the fan speed back to auto. Forexample, if the fan speed was manually configured to “slow”, <strong>and</strong> you are installing a module thatrequires more cooling power, the “slow” setting will cause the module to overheat. To configure thefan speed to auto, enter the following comm<strong>and</strong>:<strong>Brocade</strong># set-fan-speed autoThe <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-16 router ships with slot blanks installed in all empty module slots. The slotblanks help ensure proper airflow inside the router. You must remove the slot blank to install amodule in a slot.Although the slot blanks differ in size, the procedure for removing them is identical. You will need aflat-blade screwdriver to perform this task.Follow these steps to remove a slot blank.1. Loosen the screws on either end of the slot blank by h<strong>and</strong> or with a flat-blade screwdriver.2. Pull the slot blank out of the router <strong>and</strong> store it in a safe place for future use.CAUTIONIf you are hot-swapping a module, allow a minimum of two seconds after a module (or powersupply or fan tray) has been removed before inserting a module in the same slot.Follow this procedure to install modules in the router.1. If you are installing a module in a slot which may have been previously configured for adifferent module type, remove the old configuration information using this procedure:a.
