Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router 4Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 routerThis section describes how to install a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router:Preparing the installation siteBefore installing the router, plan the location <strong>and</strong> orientation relative to other devices <strong>and</strong>equipment. For cooling purposes, allow a minimum of six inches of space between the sides, front,<strong>and</strong> the back of the router <strong>and</strong> walls or other obstructions. If a router is installed within a perforatedenclosure, the perforations must cover at least 60 percent of the surface.Since you will be using a mechanical lift to move <strong>and</strong> install the router, make sure you allow enoughworking room.NOTEMake sure your site provides 200-240 AC power.Ensure that the proper network <strong>and</strong> power cabling is installed in the site. For information oncabling, refer to “<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 cable management” on page 280, “Installing<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router power supplies” on page 290, <strong>and</strong> “Attaching a managementstation” on page 296.Unpacking a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 routerThe <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router ships with the following items:• Router chassis with the card slots empty, <strong>and</strong> covered with upper <strong>and</strong> lower shipping panels• The appropriate number of interface modules, switch fabric modules, management modules,<strong>and</strong> power supplies• A total of 32 slot blanks• Insertion or extraction tool for use with RJ 45 <strong>and</strong> fiber-optic connectorsIf any items are missing, contact the place of purchaseRemoving the <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 from the shipping crateThe <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router ships in a wooden crate, bolted to an inner pallet, <strong>and</strong>resting on an outer pallet. To remove the router, the crate must be in the upright (vertical) position.Before unpacking the router, the site should be prepared as described in “Preparing the installationsite” on page 273. You will need these tools:• A forklift or pallet jack with a minimum weight limit of 550 lb to move the router while still onthe pallet.• A mechanical lift with a minimum weight limit of 350-lb limit to move the router off the pallet.The ideal configuration is a counterweight base material lift with a metal lift plate installed inplace of the forks.
