4Installing a Brocade NetIron XMR 16000 routerCAUTIONFor the NEBS-compliant installation of Brocade NetIron XMR 4000, 8000, and 16000 routerswith AC and DC systems, use a ground wire of at least 6 American Wire Gauge (AWG). The groundwire should have an agency-approved crimped connector (provided with the device) attached toone end, with the other end attached to building ground. The connector must be crimped with theproper tool, allowing it to be connected to both ground screws on the enclosure. Before crimpingthe ground wire into the provided ground lug, insure the bare copper wire has been cleaned andantioxidant is applied to the bare wire.CAUTIONTo ensure adequate bonding when attaching the ground lug, a minimum of 20 PSI of torque isrequired to be applied to the mounting hardware used to attach the ground lug.FIGURE 190Crimping the power supply wire in the lug11 AWG power supply wireFor 1200 W power supply, #8 AWGFor 1800 W power supply, #6 AWG5. Installing a Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 router 4Installing a Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 routerThis section describes how to install a Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 router:Preparing the installation siteBefore installing the router, plan the location and orientation relative to other devices andequipment. For cooling purposes, allow a minimum of six inches of space between the sides, front,and the back of the router and walls or other obstructions. If a router is installed within a perforatedenclosure, the perforations must cover at least 60 percent of the surface.Since you will be using a mechanical lift to move and install the router, make sure you allow enoughworking room.NOTEMake sure your site provides 200-240 AC power.Ensure that the proper network and power cabling is installed in the site. For information oncabling, refer to “Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 cable management” on page 280, “InstallingBrocade NetIron XMR 32000 router power supplies” on page 290, and “Attaching a managementstation” on page 296.Unpacking a Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 routerThe Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 router ships with the following items:• Router chassis with the card slots empty, and covered with upper and lower shipping panels• The appropriate number of interface modules, switch fabric modules, management modules,and power supplies• A total of 32 slot blanks• Insertion or extraction tool for use with RJ 45 and fiber-optic connectorsIf any items are missing, contact the place of purchaseRemoving the Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 from the shipping crateThe Brocade NetIron XMR 32000 router ships in a wooden crate, bolted to an inner pallet, andresting on an outer pallet. To remove the router, the crate must be in the upright (vertical) position.Before unpacking the router, the site should be prepared as described in “Preparing the installationsite” on page 273. You will need these tools:• A forklift or pallet jack with a minimum weight limit of 550 lb to move the router while still onthe pallet.• A mechanical lift with a minimum weight limit of 350-lb limit to move the router off the pallet.The ideal configuration is a counterweight base material lift with a metal lift plate installed inplace of the forks. The metal plate should be no wider than 17 inches, so that it will fit betweenthe rack mount rails.• A strap to stabilize the router while it is being moved on the mechanical lift• A power drill• A large Phillips screwdriver attachmentBrocade MLX Series and Brocade NetIron XMR Hardware Installation Guide 27353-1002373-02
