Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 router 4Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 router in a rackKeep the following precautions in mind when installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 router in arack:DANGERA fully-populated <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 router is heavy. TWO OR MORE PEOPLE AREREQUIRED WHEN LIFTING, HANDLING, OR MOUNTING THESE DEVICES.DANGERDo not use the h<strong>and</strong>les on the power supply units to lift or carry routers.DANGERMake sure the rack or cabinet housing the router is adequately secured to prevent it frombecoming unstable or falling over.DANGERMount the router in a rack or cabinet as close to the floor as possible. Place the heaviest routerat the bottom <strong>and</strong> progressively place lighter routers above.Because of the weight of a fully loaded <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 router, it is recommended thatyou mount it in a rack before installing modules <strong>and</strong> AC power supplies.You can install up to three <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 routers in a st<strong>and</strong>ard 19-inch (EIA310-D)rack. You can install your device in a front-mount or a mid-mount configuration using thefactory-installed mounting brackets. For a mid-mount configuration, simply remove the bracketsfrom the front edges of the device <strong>and</strong> re-attach them to the center sides of the device using thepre-drilled holes.You must provide four st<strong>and</strong>ard #12-24 pan-head screws for each <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000router that you install in a rack. To perform this task, you will need a #2 Phillips screwdriver.Follow these steps to mount a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 16000 router in a rack.1. Determine the position of each router in the rack. For example, mount a router with the fewestmodules near the top, a router with more modules near the middle, <strong>and</strong> a fully populatedrouter near the bottom of the rack.2. Position the four mounting screws for each router in the rack posts according to the spacingsof the keyhole slots (the ones with the narrow portion pointing up) on the mounting brackets asshown in Figure 184.
