2Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-4 routerNOTE<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e modules are dedicated, which means that you must install them in <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>erouters only. If you install a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e module in a non-<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e router, or install a moduleintended for a non-<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e router in a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e router, the router <strong>and</strong> module will notfunction properly.Although management modules are designed to be hot-swappable, you must upgrade the softwareon all interface modules <strong>and</strong> management modules to the appropriate software release beforeinstalling them. For more information on the appropriate software release, refer to the <strong>Hardware</strong>Installation Notes that shipped with the management module.For information about how to disable <strong>and</strong> re-enable power to interface modules, see “Disabling <strong>and</strong>re-enabling power to interface modules” on page 321Table 27 identifies the router slot numbers where the modules must be installed. You should also have the following items available:• A 1/4 inch #8 flat-blade screwdriver, or a #2 Phillips screwdriver• A new interface module, which you can order from <strong>Brocade</strong>• An ESD wrist strap with a plug for connection to the ESD connector on the <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>erouter.DANGERFor safety reasons, the ESD wrist strap should contain a 1 megohm series resistor.The <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-4 router ships with slot blanks installed in all empty module slots. The slotblanks help ensure proper airflow inside the router.
