Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>-8 router 3• An ESD wrist strap with a plug for connection to the ESD connector on the <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>-8router.DANGERFor safety reasons, the ESD wrist strap should contain a 1 megohm series resistor.You can install a new interface module while the router is powered on <strong>and</strong> running.The router ships with slot blanks installed in all empty module slots. The slot blanks help ensureproper airflow inside the router. You must remove the slot blank to install a module into a slot.Although the slot blanks differ in size, the procedure for removing them is identical. You will need aflat-blade screwdriver to perform this task.Follow these steps to remove a slot blank.1. Loosen the screws on either end of the slot blank by h<strong>and</strong> or with a flat-blade screwdriver.2. Pull the slot blank out of the router, <strong>and</strong> store it in a safe place for future use.CAUTIONIf you are hot-swapping a module, allow a minimum of two seconds after a module (or powersupply or fan tray) has been removed before inserting a module in the same slot.Follow these steps to install a module.1. If you are installing a module in a slot which may have been configured for a different moduletype, remove the old configuration information by following these steps.a. Use the show running-config comm<strong>and</strong> in config mode to determine the currentconfiguration of the slot.<strong>Brocade</strong>(config)# show running-configCurrent configuration:!ver V5.0.0T163module 1 ni-mlx-20-port-1g-copper!This example shows that slot 1 has already been configured for a 20-port 1 Gbps copperinterface module.With the module designation from show running-config comm<strong>and</strong> output, use the nomodule comm<strong>and</strong> to remove the configuration from slot 1.<strong>Brocade</strong>(config)# no module 1 ni-mlx-20-port-1g-copperThis example removes the configuration from slot 1, leaving it ready for a new module.2. Put on the ESD wrist strap <strong>and</strong> ground yourself by inserting the plug into the ESD connector onthe front of the chassis.3. Remove the module from the packaging.4. Insert the module into the router slot, <strong>and</strong> slide the card along the card guide until the ejectorson either side of the module move close to the module front panel.
