Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>-32 router 3NOTEIf you are installing your device in an open frame rack, you will need to purchase the Open FrameEIA 310-D Rack Mount Kit.Installation requirementsAllow 1 to 2 hours to complete this procedure. Your installation site must meet the followingrequirements to ensure correct installation <strong>and</strong> operation:• Provide 35 U of space in a 19 inch EIA 310 D open frame rack.- Allow 1U of space for the rack mount saddle, 33U for the router, <strong>and</strong> 1U of temporaryspace above the router for the purposes of installation.• Verify that the additional weight of the router does not exceed the weight limits for the rack orthe floor.• Ensure that an electrical branch circuit with the following characteristics is available:- Required voltage <strong>and</strong> frequency as indicated in the hardware reference manual.- Protection by a circuit breaker in accordance with local electrical codes.- Supply circuit, line fusing, <strong>and</strong> wire size that conform to the electrical rating on the routernameplate.- Grounded outlet compatible with the power cord <strong>and</strong> installed by a licensed electrician.• Ensure that all equipment installed in the rack is grounded through a reliable branch circuitconnection. Do not rely on a secondary connection to a branch circuit, such as a power strip.• Ensure that the rack is mechanically secured to support the router model.Ensure that theairflow available at the inlet air vents does not exceed 40 o Celsius (104 o Fahrenheit).• Only one 32-slot device can be mounted in each Open Frame EIA 310-D rack, positioned asclose to the bottom of the rack as possible.• The empty device weighs approximately 362 lbs. You will need a mechanical device (such as amaterial lift), <strong>and</strong> at least two people to guide the device into place.• Before you install the device, make sure that the rack is in a permanent location <strong>and</strong> issecured to the floor or wall of the building. The installation site must allow adequate clearancefor airflow, installation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance.Tool requirements <strong>and</strong> parts listYou will need the following tools to install a 32-slot device in a rack.NOTEIf you are installing your device in an open frame rack, you will need to purchase the Open FrameEIA 310-D Rack Mount Kit.• A forklift or pallet jack to move the router while it is on the pallet (500 lbs. minimum).• Insertion-extraction tool for use with RJ45 <strong>and</strong> fiber-optic connectors• A mechanical lift tool fitted with a lift plate (instead of forks) to move the device off the pallet<strong>and</strong> transport it to the rack.
