1Router modulesNOTEAfter a power supply is removed from a router, the software determines if there is enough power tooperate all of the interface modules. If there is not enough power, some interface modules will bepowered off.NOTEIf you want to perform a hitless upgrade, replace one power supply unit at a time, and make surethe device has at least +1 redundancy at all times.DANGERPower supplies are hot-swappable, which means they can be removed and replaced while therouter is powered on and running. However, Brocade recommends that you disconnect a powersupply from the power source before removing and replacing the supply. The 4-, 8-, and 16-slotrouter can be running while a power supply is being removed and replaced, but the power supplyitself should not be connected to a power source. Otherwise, you could be injured, or the powersupply or other parts of the router could be damaged. (In the 32-slot router, you cannot unlatchand remove a power supply without first releasing the cord retainer and removing the powercord.)Rack mounting bracketsAll routers ship with pre-installed mounting brackets that allow you to front-mount the router in astandard 19-inch (EIA310-D) rack. For instructions about how to mount the router in a rack, refer tothe installation chapter that is appropriate for your router model. You can also mid-mount your 4-, 8- or 16-slot router in a rack using the brackets that ship with therouter. You simply remove the brackets from the front of the router and mount them midway alongthe sides of the router. For more information, see the installation chapter appropriated for yourrouter model.Brocade MLXe routers can also be mounted in a cabinet or 4-post rack using optional rack mountkits available from Brocade. For information about how to install your Brocade MLXe router in acabinet or 4-post rack, refer to “Cabinet or 4-Post Rack Mount Kit contents” on page 100.Cooling system for Brocade MLXe routersThe cooling systems for Brocade MLXe routers contain the following components:• 4-slot router: Equipped with one fan assembly that contains two 4-speed fans and two fancontrollers to support redundancy.• 8-slot router: Equipped with one fan assembly containing four 4-speed fans and four fancontrollers to support redundancy.• 16-slot router: Equipped with two high-speed fan assemblies. Each fan assembly contains two4-speed fans with four fan controllers to support redundancy.
