Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router 4Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router in a rackThis section describes how to install a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router in a rack.Keep the following precautions in mind when mounting a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router in arack:DANGERMake sure the rack or cabinet housing the router is adequately secured to prevent it frombecoming unstable or falling over.Because of the weight of a fully loaded <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router, it is recommended thatyou mount the router in a rack before installing the modules <strong>and</strong> AC power supplies.• You can install one <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router in a st<strong>and</strong>ard 19-inch (EIA310-D) rack.YOu can install your device in either a front-mount configuration or a mid-mount configurationusing the factory-installed mounting brackets. For a mid-mount configuration, simply removethe mounting brackets from the front edges of the device <strong>and</strong> re-attach them to the centersides of the device using the pre-drilled holes.• You must provide eight st<strong>and</strong>ard #12-24 pan-head screws to secure the router in the rack.Before performing this task, you should have an assembled rack <strong>and</strong> a #2 Phillips screwdriver.• An empty <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 chassis weighs approximately 325 lbs. You must use amechanical device (such as a material lift or work positioner), <strong>and</strong> four people are required toguide the router into place.Follow these steps to install a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> 32000 router in a rack.NOTEFor better grounding of the router to the rack, attach the router using star washers. You can also usestar washers with single hole grounding lugs to prevent rotation of the lug.1. Ensure the rack is in a permanent location <strong>and</strong> is secured to the building. Ensure that theinstallation site allows adequate clearance for airflow, installation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance.2. Move the pallet <strong>and</strong> router as close to the installation site as possible.3. Use a power drill with a large Phillips screwdriver attachment to remove the four L-brackets thatattach the base of the router to the inner pallet.
