3Installing a Brocade MLX-8 routerFor information about how to disable and re-enable power to interface modules, see “Disabling andre-enabling power to interface modules” on page 321DANGERThe intra-building ports of the equipment or subassembly are suitable for connection tointra-building or unexposed wiring or cabling only. The intra-building ports of the equipment orsubassembly MUST NOT be metallically connected to interfaces that connect to the outside plant(OSP) or its wiring. These interfaces are designed for use as intra-building interfaces only (Type 2or Type 4 ports as described in GR-1089-CORE, Issue 5) and require isolation from the exposedOSP cabling. The addition of Primary Protectors is not sufficient protection in order to connectthese interfaces metallically to OSP wiring.NOTEBrocade MLX modules are dedicated, which means that you must install them in the Brocade MLXrouter only. If you try to install a Brocade MLX module in another Brocade device, or install a moduleintended for a another Brocade device in a Brocade MLX router, the router and module will notfunction properly.Although management modules are designed to be hot-swappable, you must upgrade the softwareon all interface modules and management modules to the appropriate software release beforeinstalling them. For more information on the appropriate software release, refer to the HardwareInstallation Notes that shipped with the management module.If you are installing a redundant management module, refer to the chapter titled “Using a RedundantManagement Module” in the Brocade MLX Series and Brocade NetIron Family Configuration Guidefor information about how the redundant module works, optional software configurations, and howto manage redundancy.Table 35 identifies the router slot numbers where the modules must be installed.
