Installing a Brocade MLX-16 router 3Installing a Brocade MLX-16 routerThis section describes how to install a Brocade MLX-16 router.Preparing the installation siteBefore installing the router, plan the location and orientation relative to other devices andequipment. For cooling purposes, allow a minimum of six inches of space between the sides, front,and the back of the router and walls or other obstructions. If a router is installed in a perforatedenclosure, the perforations must cover at least 60 percent of the surface.Ensure that the proper power and network cabling is installed at the site. For information aboutcabling, refer to “Installing Brocade MLX-16 router power supplies” on page 186, “Attaching amanagement station” on page 227, and “Connecting the router to a network device” on page 317.Unpacking a Brocade MLX-16 routerThe Brocade MLX-16 router ships with the following items:• Switch fabric modules installed in the slots marked SF, and slot blanks installed in all emptymodule slots.• Insertion or extraction tool for use with RJ45 and fiber-optic connectors.If any of these items are missing, contact the place of purchase.Remove your Brocade MLXe-16 router from the shipping carton. Save the shipping carton andpacking materials in case you need to move or ship the router at a later time.Lifting guidelines for Brocade MLX-16 routersDANGERA fully-populated Brocade MLX-16 device is heavy. TWO PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED WHEN LIFTING,HANDLING, OR MOUNTING THESE DEVICES.Follow these guidelines for lifting and moving your Brocade MLX-16 router:• Before lifting or moving the router, disconnect all external cables.• Do not attempt to lift a fully configured router by yourself.
