2Attaching a management stationFollow these steps to remove a 3000W DC power supply in a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 router:1. Ensure the main DC power breaker is OFF.2. Use a #1 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw that secures the safety cover, as shown inFigure 102 on page 138.3. Pull down on the h<strong>and</strong>le to remove the 3000W power supply. Refer to Figure 100 on page 136.4. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the power lugs. Refer toFigure 103 on page 138.Final stepsComplete these steps in the order in which they are listed:• “Attaching a management station”• “Activating the power source”• “Verifying proper operation”Attaching a management stationYou can manage your router in the following ways:• Connect a PC or terminal to the console port on the management module. From this port, youcan assign an IP address to the management module <strong>and</strong> establish connections throughTelnet or SSH.• Connect the router to your existing management network <strong>and</strong> manage the router <strong>and</strong> othernetwork devices from a management station.NOTEThe management network that you connect to through the 10/100 Ethernet port must beseparate <strong>and</strong> isolated from the network over which user packets are switched <strong>and</strong> routed. Forinformation about functionality on the management port, Refer to “Underst<strong>and</strong>ingmanagement port functions” on page 317.Attaching a PC or terminal to the console port or Ethernet portYou can attach a PC or terminal to either the console port (which has a male DB-9 serialconnector), or the 10/100/1000 or 1000Base TX Ethernet port (which has an RJ45 UTPconnector) on the management module. From the console port, you can access the router CLIdirectly from the PC or terminal or through a Telnet connection. From the Ethernet port, you canaccess the router CLI or Web management interface directly from the PC or terminal or through aTelnet connection.Before performing this task, have the following items available:• PC running a terminal emulation application or a terminal.• For console port connections, a straight-through EIA or TIA DB-9 serial cable with one endterminated in a female DB-9 connector <strong>and</strong> the other end terminated in a male or female DB-9or DB-25 connector, depending on the specifications of your PC or terminal. You can order thiscable from <strong>Brocade</strong> or build your own cable.
