8Replacing a power supplyEnabling a power supply shutdownThe power-off power-supply comm<strong>and</strong> allows you to shut down a power supply manually.To shut down a power supply, enter the following comm<strong>and</strong>.<strong>Brocade</strong># power-off power-supply 3This will Shutdown The Power Supply # 3Are you sure? (enter 'y' or 'n'): yERROR: Power Supply # 3 is the Last Available in the system <strong>and</strong> will not beshutdown.To force the shutdown, please use keyword "forced"Syntax: power-off power-supply [forced] The power-supply keyword allows you to shut down a power supply.The variable specifies a power supply index number.The forced option forces the last power supply available in the system to shut down.The CLI will notshut down the last power supply unless the forced option is used.Powering on the power supply through the CLIUse the power-on power-supply comm<strong>and</strong> to turn on a power supply that has been shut down.A power supply will shut down due to flapping, or if a shutdown is enabled manually using thepower-off power-supply comm<strong>and</strong>. Refer to “Enabling a power supply shutdown” on page 356.To turn on a power supply that has shut down, enter the following comm<strong>and</strong>.<strong>Brocade</strong># power-on power-supply 1AC Power Supply 1 is OKThe output example displays the status for power supply 1 as OK.NOTEIf a power supply has shut down, power to the interface module will be lost. There will not be enoughpower remaining in the system.Syntax: power-on [power-supply ]The variable specifies a power supply index number.Replacing a power supplyTo replace a power supply, have the following items available:• A new power supply (AC or DC), which you can order from <strong>Brocade</strong>• A small flat-blade or Phillips screwdriver (<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>-4 only)DANGERThe power supplies are hot swappable, which means they can be removed <strong>and</strong> replaced whilethe device is powered on <strong>and</strong> running. However, <strong>Brocade</strong> recommends that you disconnect thepower supply from its power source before removing <strong>and</strong> replacing the supply.
