Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 router 2Installing a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 routerThis section describes how to install a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 router.NOTEIllustrations in this chapter may differ slightly from the actual equipment.Preparing the installation siteBefore installing the router, plan the location <strong>and</strong> orientation relative to other devices <strong>and</strong>equipment. For cooling purposes, allow a minimum of six inches of space between the sides, front,<strong>and</strong> the back of the router <strong>and</strong> walls or other obstructions. If a router is installed within a perforatedenclosure, the perforations must cover at least 60 percent of the surface.NOTEThis equipment is suitable for installation in a Network Telecommunication facility <strong>and</strong> where NECrequirements apply. Additionally, it may be installed in either a Common Bonding Network (CBN) orIsolated Bonding Network (IBN). It is not intended for Outside Plant (OSP) installations.You will need to use a mechanical lift to move <strong>and</strong> install the router. Be sure to allow enoughworking room for the lift.NOTEMake sure your site provides 200-240 AC power.Ensure that the proper power <strong>and</strong> network cabling is installed at the site.For information on cabling, refer to “<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 cable management” on page 126,“Installing power supplies in a <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 router” on page 136, “Attaching a managementstation” on page 140.<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 router shipping carton contentsThe <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 router ships with the following items:• Router chassis with the empty slots covered with upper <strong>and</strong> lower shipping panels. The routeris housed in a wooden shipping crate that is strapped to a pallet.• The appropriate number of interface modules, switch fabric modules, management modules,<strong>and</strong> power supplies (four AC or four DC) in separate shipping cartons.• 32 slot blanks in separate shipping carton.• Insertion or extraction tool for use with RJ45 <strong>and</strong> fiber-optic connectors.If any of these items are missing, contact the place of purchase.Unpacking your <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong>e-32 routerYou will need the following tools to remove your router from the shipping crate:• A forklift or pallet jack with a minimum limit of 550 lbs to move the router crate on the pallet.<strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>MLX</strong> <strong>Series</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Brocade</strong> <strong>NetIron</strong> <strong>XMR</strong> <strong>Hardware</strong> Installation Guide 10953-1002373-02
