Industry / employer’s research<br />

Industry research revealed many interesting facts that are far away from the perception of<br />

university about education. To be more precise, there interest is absolutely pragmatic and<br />

ego-centric, unlike university who is more prone to idealism and bringing common good for<br />

society. The attitude of private sector is very natural, since quality of their performance has<br />

direct effect on their profits. Although, it is “business as usual” to take a risk, it don’t apply<br />

to the qualification of stuff when recruiting a new personnel.<br />

During private interviews, company representatives admitted that it is not within their<br />

interest to get students at job, since it is lost investment of time and efforts for them. It is<br />

safer to recruit experienced candidates or develop their existing human capital. To the<br />

question - how do you seek for a new employee in case of vacant position, responses were<br />

distributed as follows:<br />

Responses were more in favor of practical experience, rather than academic education,<br />

when asking employers about their preferences during recruiting or promoting a personnel<br />

(Figure 1):<br />

It is worth to admit, that tourism is a new specialization for Georgia. Therefore, there is<br />

great lack of knowledge based tourism business in Georgia. Fast increase in tourism<br />

product/services demand has resulted in quick raise of supply, which still has not catch up<br />

the qualitative criterion. Another problem is a nature of Georgia entrepreneurs. There is<br />

lack of development will from the side of companies, especially in case of SMEs, which are<br />
