to its second reading. In compliance with section 6, Rules of the Board of
Aldermen, in part - that no order authorizing a loan shall have more than
one reading on the -same day, this order-is laid on the table until the next
meeting for its second reading.
Vice-president Crowley offered the following orders,
Ordered:
That the Committee on Public Works consider the
advisability of installing' a granolithic walk to the entrance of the East
Somerville Public Library on Broadway, as the present entrance to the Library
is nothing but wooden planks which are now in bad condition.
Adopted.
Ordered:
That the President is hereby authorized to
appoint a special committee on this board consisting of five members, to ar-
range and conduct, in conjunction with his Honor Mayor Murphy activities of
the City Government in celebrating Independence Day, July 4, 1950.
Adopted.
Ordered:
That the Committee on Public Safety consider
the immediate advisability of the establishment of a safety zone on Broadway
at the Northern Traffic Artery.
I respectfully ask-the Committee for an immediate considera-
tion of this order, as the particular spot is' very dangerous, as passengers
getting on and off of the street cars are in the path of-automobile traffic
as they come to a stop on signal before crossing the Artery, and • the safety
zone, for the people to stand in, would eliminate the possibilities of ser-
ious accidents at this point.

Ordered:
That the hour for opening the polls at the State
Primary during the present year shall be twelve o ! clock noon and the hour for
closing the same shall be nine o'clock in the evening.
That the hour for opening the polls at the State Election
during the present year shall be six o'clock in the morning and the hour
for closing the same shall be eight o'clock in the evening.

That driveways be constructed at the . junction
of Northern Traffic Artery and Chester street in accordance with the enclosed
plan #25550-A when there first shall have been deposited with the city
