-Post" Office' purposes" after-'the- word :"city" "in''the second line.<br />

Ordered:<br />

That bonds <strong>of</strong> the city <strong>of</strong> <strong>Somerville</strong> be issued<br />

Highway Loan Bonds not exceeding the aggregate principal sura<br />

<strong>of</strong> two'.hundred thousand (200.000) dollarsf the said bonds to be paid In not<br />

more than ten years from the date issued or at such earlier dates as may be<br />

determined by the treasurer with the approval <strong>of</strong> the mayor; the proceeds<br />

from the sale <strong>of</strong> said bonds to be used for and are hereby appropriated for<br />

the construction <strong>of</strong> stone, block, brick or other permanent pavement <strong>of</strong> similar<br />

lasting character, under specifications approved by the department <strong>of</strong><br />

public works.<br />

Ordered;<br />

His honor the Mayor is hereby authorized to<br />

to the United States Government ror" Post OTl'ice purposes<br />

sell and convey In behalf <strong>of</strong> the clty^the property owned by the city at the<br />

junction <strong>of</strong> Prospect street and <strong>Somerville</strong> avenue, now used by the Sewer<br />

Department and for polling booth, at a price not less than ten thousand nine<br />

hundred (10,900) dollars.<br />

Motion was made to lay this order on the table which was "defeated<br />

by a vote <strong>of</strong> 10-9. Question then came on passing the order to its<br />

second reading and the order was passed to its second reading and was<br />

adopted.<br />

Approved by the mayor June 6, 1930.<br />

Ordered:<br />

The sum <strong>of</strong> thirty thousand (30,000) is hereby<br />

transferred from Excess and Deficiency account to Highways Construction, ^er<br />

manent Pavement Account,<br />

Question came on adoption <strong>of</strong> order. Alderman s herman invoked<br />

section 15 and further action delayed for this meeting.<br />

Vice-president Crowley <strong>of</strong>fered the following resolution,<br />

Resolved:<br />

That it has come to the attention <strong>of</strong> this Honorable<br />

Board that the Federal Post Office Officlals^at...Washington are considering<br />

the elimination in the city <strong>of</strong> ^omervllle <strong>of</strong> the present three substations<br />

which we now have, and in their stead, to e_rect one central Post<br />

station.<br />

In view <strong>of</strong> the fact that the present system <strong>of</strong> substations<br />

is much more desirable and that the service to the citizens in the delivery<br />

<strong>of</strong> mall and in the ready accessibility <strong>of</strong> the three sub-stations has proven to<br />

be <strong>of</strong> tremendous help and value, be it further resolved, that this Honorable<br />

Board record itself in opposition to any change with regard to the present<br />

substation situation in this Uit and that we :are also opposed to the erection<br />

<strong>of</strong> one Central Post Office station, be it further resolved, that the<br />

<strong>City</strong> Clerk be authorized to forward to our two Senators at Washington, and to<br />

our Congressman at Washington and to the Postmaster General at Washington<br />
