as the first step in the development of that section as part of the Metropolitan
District.
In order to protect the rights of the city of Somerville and
so that our citizens might continue to have the use of the only bathing beach
within the city limits, I called upon Mr. David B. Keniston, Chairman of the
Metropolitan District Commission with regard to this matter. Mr. Keniston
assured me that the Metropolitan District Commission will permit the city of
Somerville to operate and maintain the bathing beach, and will also develop
and make a park out of that part of the land which is not used for bathing
purposes. This, of course, will be a decided improvement in the Ten Hill
section, and in my opinion is the first step of a great development in the
so-called Mystic Valley area.
Upon receiving this assurance from the Metropolitan District
Commission, I herewith take pleasure in returning the afore-mentioned order
with my approval.
Placed on file.
Very truly yours,
John J. Murphy,
Mayor.
