Background, orientation <strong>and</strong> purpose<br />

I.U.T. Le Havre was established <strong>in</strong> 1967. Its mission is to teach how to animate, manage <strong>and</strong><br />

coord<strong>in</strong>ate social <strong>and</strong> socio-<strong>cultural</strong> activities with<strong>in</strong> various populations.<br />

Content<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> objective is to provide a 2-year coursetoenable students to work with a public of varied<br />

orig<strong>in</strong>s. The course is based on professional, theoretical teach<strong>in</strong>g. Active participation aims at<br />

develop<strong>in</strong>g personality, sense of responsibility <strong>and</strong> an ability to relate with each other. Research <strong>and</strong><br />

analysis <strong>in</strong>to economic, social, political, <strong>cultural</strong> <strong>and</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g actualities are encouraged.<br />

Special <strong>in</strong>formation<br />

As special events related to the study programme, there are 3 or 4 special days related to a special<br />

topic, out<strong>in</strong>gs to Paris (museums <strong>and</strong> shows) <strong>and</strong> projects of local animation (presented at university,<br />

town or regional level).<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through exam<strong>in</strong>ations, papers <strong>and</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al paper/thesis.<br />

Lecturers<br />

The number of teach<strong>in</strong>g personnel is 8, 5 of whom are women. They are all permanent but there are<br />

also approximately 50 visit<strong>in</strong>g lecturers. The person responsible for the study programme is Manuelle<br />

Sautereau.<br />

Applicants should have a secondary school certificate or equivalent.<br />
