Created in 1965, following the signing of the “Venice Charter”, the International Council on
Monuments and Sites is devoted to the conservation of immovable cultural heritage. ICOMOS is a nongovernmental
organisation of some 5.500 members, with 92 national committees and 17 scientific
Committees, representing an active network of cooperation. ICOMOS, as an association in partnership
relations with UNESCO, is the scientific advisory body of the World Heritage Committee.
