The National Cultural Centre was established <strong>in</strong> 2002 by comb<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g three public <strong>in</strong>stitutions; the<br />

largest of these, the Centre for the Animation of Culture, was established <strong>in</strong> 1950. The ma<strong>in</strong> objectives<br />

of the new <strong>in</strong>stitution are:<br />

- to promote the national heritage as an element with<strong>in</strong> European <strong>cultural</strong> heritage;<br />

- to develop a concept of culture as a topic <strong>in</strong> its own right, which is a factor <strong>in</strong> socioeconomic<br />

development <strong>and</strong> civic education;<br />

- to <strong>in</strong>spire <strong>cultural</strong> movements <strong>and</strong> active participation <strong>in</strong> the culture of local communities;<br />

- to gather <strong>and</strong> spread <strong>in</strong>formation about culture; <strong>and</strong><br />

- to acquire non-budgetary f<strong>in</strong>ancial resources from local <strong>and</strong> foreign funds.<br />

Courses <strong>in</strong> Skill Improvement for Culture Animators (approximately 100 events per year).<br />

Content<br />

The courses <strong>and</strong> events provide skill improvement <strong>in</strong> the follow<strong>in</strong>g fields: music, f<strong>in</strong>e arts, theatre,<br />

media, dance, therapy through art (for the disabled), game pedagogy <strong>and</strong> <strong>cultural</strong> market<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Evaluation <strong>and</strong> assessment<br />

Student performance is evaluated through participation <strong>and</strong> practical work/<strong>in</strong>ternship.<br />

Lecturers<br />

Teach<strong>in</strong>g is provided by lecturers <strong>and</strong> teachers from outside the Centre, whose connection with the<br />

Centre varies <strong>in</strong> permanence depend<strong>in</strong>g on subject.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Some of the courses require a professional/educational background, but most do not.<br />

Students are from Pol<strong>and</strong>. Foreigners rarely participate.<br />
